Today at recess, I led interested members of WT's Recess Green Team on a walk around the pond. Actually, I should say that they led me, considering they showed me things I never even knew existed, like a natural spring and a "fishing hole." This morning we had our first morning meeting! It was run by our 5th grade leaders. They introduced the newest students at our school, and then we sang the WT Marching Song.
We have morning meetings monthly in order to bring the entire school together to celebrate special events and to learn about expectations. It's nice to see everyone gathered in one place on these mornings! Today, the North Hills campus got up close and personal with the work of internationally-known artist Priscilla Hollingsworth. Hailing from Georgia, she brought with her a variety of her work, in both the print and sculpture mediums. Much of her inspiration comes from nature and science, and she told us her mother is a retired biology teacher, which explains why so many of us felt like we were peering into a microscope when we looked at her paintings. Her work inspired us to create our own patterns that will be turned into art when they are displayed alongside Ms. Hollingworth's pieces at the City Campus art gallery. If you want to learn more about Ms. Hollingworth's art, her website is here. It was a great first two days here at WTN--we learned, we met new people, and we explored the campus. Here's to a great year! This is a big year for photography here in the WTN Library. To help us prepare, here is a wonderful guide to using photos in the classroom:
